Hanes

Cynhaliwyd yr Ŵyl Ifan gyntaf yng Nghaerdydd yn 1977. Yn y dyddiau cynnar gŵyl un diwrnod ydoedd gyda'r timoedd dawnsio yn cwrdd mewn nifer o leoliadau i ddawnsio ac yna'n dod at ei gilydd ar ddiwedd y dydd. Doedd dim trefniadau cludiant na llety ac roedd yr ŵyl drosodd mewn amrantiad.

Erbyn heddiw mae'r ŵyl yn ymestyn dros dridiau ac yn cael ei threfnu gan bwyllgor sy'n cwrdd yn rheolaidd i gydlynu'r gwahanol ddigwyddiadau a threfnu llety, cludiant, mannau bwyta a dawnsio ar orymdaith drwy ganol Caerdydd.

Mae'r Taplas ar y nos Sadwrn yn un o uchafbwyntiau'r ŵyl a'r gweithdai dawns a cherddoriaeth wedi datblygu dros y blynyddoedd ac yn gyfle i bawb flasu dawnsiau o wahanol wledydd a chyfle i ddysgu rhagor am gerddoriaeth draddodiadol Cymru.

History

The first Gŵyl Ifan was held in Cardiff in 1977. In the early days the festival was a one day affair with dance teams meeting in various places to dance and then joining together at the end of the day. There were no transport or accommodation arrangements and the whole festival was over in a flash.

By today the festival is held over three days and is arranged by a committee which meets regularly to co-ordinate the various activites and to arrange accommodation, transport, eatng and dancing venues and the procession through the centre of Cardiff.

The Taplas on Saturday night is one of the highlights of the weekendand the dance and music workshops have developed over the years to five everyone the opportunity to have a go at dances from different countries and a chance to learn more about traditional Welsh music.
